Has IIT Kanpur lost its charm?

I don’t think IIT Kanpur has lost its charm considering its excellent research facilities and the research work it has done in recent times. Also, the excellent placements testify to its charm and credibility. But if you are talking about attracting top rankers, then yes, IIT Kanpur is a little behind IIT Delhi and IIT Bombay in attracting the top 100 JEE rankers. There are many reasons why this is happening

• IIT Bombay and IIT Delhi being metro cities attract more students than Kanpur, a poorly developed city.
• The availability of coaching institutes makes life easier for students preparing for higher studies 
• Misconceptions about IIT Kanpur’s curriculum being highly rigorous and college life being very rigid stops many students from joining it. However, recently the curriculum has been updated and made flexible to suit the needs of the students.
• The poor location of IIT Kanpur becomes a disadvantage during placements when some companies decide not to come to the campus for placements. However, this is only with a very few companies and is not a major option to discredit IIT Kanpur

All in all, IIT Kanpur hasn’t lost its charm even a bit and is still known for its cutting-edge research and excellent quality of education.
