Since almost all the new IIMs have a common performance rate these days, it’s quite a dilemma to choose one among them. Some make their choices on the basis of placement reports while others prefer locational and campus-related factors.
Let me give you 2 solid reasons why placement reports are not a good basis for judgment.
This can leave you more confused.
Another factor people consider is the location. Apart from Rohtak, almost every IIM has a locational issue. Even the faculty and pedagogy are similar. So the overall difference in these colleges is completely dependent on your mindset and willingness to struggle.
Now I have come up with a unique parameter to make your decision a tad bit easier. This factor is the specialization you are willing to pursue. To make it easier, let’s consider the following specializations and the IIMs that excel in each of these respective categories.
However, for this, you need to be certain of the field you are interested in. In case you are not yet certain, go for any one of these 3; Ranchi, Raipur, or Trichy.
There is no such big difference between these 6 IIMs. All 6 of these institutes have their advantages and disadvantages. So, you won’t miss out much if you choose one of these IIMs over the others.
As per the placement highlights, IIM Ranchi has a better placement record. The highlights of IIM Ranchi placement 2021 state an average CTC of INR 15.11 LPA. While the median CTC offered was INR 14.69 LPA.
As per the location IIM Rohtak is better, due to its proximity to NCR. It’s easier for students to get placements and live projects. The academics are more or less the same at all of these IIMs. Most rankings usually put IIM Ranchi first, on a overall scale.
IIMs are some of the best colleges for management studies in India. Getting accepted by old IIMs is extremely hard even if you have a great percentile. The admission criteria followed by the old IIMs is really rigorous and closely follows your past academic records. Even students with 99 percentile do not get a call because of their poor past academic performance.
Breakdown of academic requirements for old IIMs:

The new IIMs are emerging good business schools as well in terms of placements and recognition. Also, technically these aren’t new IIMs, there are six other new IIMs that have been set up; like Nagpur, Sambalpur, Bodhgaya, Visakhapatnam, Amritsar, and Sirmaur.
If you have a 99 percentile in CAT, you can also get a call from some of the top premier business schools in India like FMS, SP Jain, MDI Gurgaon and NITIE. These are as good as IIMs. You also give other management exams like IIFT, XAT, SNAP and more to increase your chances.
