Which would be better: a PGD course at the IIM Ahmedabad or a master's in management at London Business School?

One of my friends was in a similar situation a few years back. After taking to the faculties of LBS, he decided to join the IIM Ahmedabad PGD course. Here are the reasons why.

Masters in Management is a new course and doesn’t have much industry recognition. So, there aren’t many placement opportunities.
Be it academics or placements, MiM students stay in the shadow of MBA students. It is not a good option if you have an ambitious career plan.
MiM at LBS costs a lot and there aren’t many scholarship options available. Many MiM students choose to do an MBA later, which just doubles the cost.
US has a vis permit issue for the non-Europeans, which makes it difficult to secure a job after graduation. Many students come back to India after completing their degrees.

When it comes to management education, IIM A is the best there is. Even a diploma for IIM A will have more value in India compared to a MiM from LBS.

All the IIMs offer PGPM or PGDM courses, which do not require any previous work experience. Besides, these courses are entirely equivalent to a master’s degree in management (MIM or MSc) from European Business Schools. If we consider the syllabus, both these options are quite similar.

A few of the advantages of choosing LBS are as follows.

Lower Cutoff:

It can be mentioned that high entrance scores are not so important to get admission in LBS like IIMs.

Class Profile:

The classes of LSB are composed of international students, approximately from 50+ countries across the world. These international students represent minuscule sections in the alumni numbers of IIMs. So, if you want to spend time in an institute with diverse cultures including separate backgrounds, colors, and nationalities, then choose LSB MIM. LSB also offers better global recognition.

Ultimately, the decision depends on you and what you want out of this degree. If you plan on settling in India after graduation then there is no need to get admission at any foreign university. From a global career perspective in management, LBS is a better option than IIMs. Also, according to FT MIM Ranking 2020, London Business School is ranked 4th and IIM PGPM is ranked at 20.
