Countries Apart from India Celebrating Independence Day on August 15

India is celebrating its Independence Day on August 15. From the Indian citizens to the Indian diaspora spread across the globe, celebrations have already started throughout the world. The good thing is that amidst all this celebration, India won’t be celebrating alone. Apart from India, there are also some other countries who gained their Independence on August 15.

While India was being ruled by the Britishers, these countries were also in clutches of colonialist powers like France, Britain and Japan. Just like India, these countries also present a positive outlook upon the future and hope for great developments.

So, while we celebrate the 72 years of our Independence, let’s read about these countries which will be celebrating with us too.

1. Republic of Congo

Congo was earlier named as French Congo and Middle Congo in 1903. The nation celebrates Independence by organizing parades and paying tribute to their national leaders.

The Middle East country Bahrain declared its Independence from the Britishers on August 15, 1971, after signing a mutually agreed peace treaty. The Britishers already withdrew their troops in the early 1960s following a UN survey. However, the country doesn’t celebrate its Independence on 15th August.

16th December, which is the date of the ascension of the former ruler Isa bin Salman Al Khalifa has been chosen as the country’s National Day. The nation celebrates with parades and firework displays.

5. Liechtenstein

liechtenstein

One of the smallest countries in the world, Liechtenstein also celebrates its National Day on August 15. The nation has been celebrating this since 1940 and this is closely associated with the birthday of the first prince of Liechtenstein Franz Joseph-II. The celebration is done by a Catholic march to the royal palace followed by a free drink and sandwich, where the local people get a chance to chat with the Royal Family.

Celebration gets double when you know there are others also celebrating with you. So, display the true spirit of being an Indian this August 15. Happy Independence Day.
