The 2018 Commonwealth Games wrapped up on 15th April and amidst the stress of an intensely-charged competitive atmosphere, athletes from around the world took to Tinder to have some fun.

Among them was English boxer and bronze medalist Luke McCormack who showed off his chiseled physique by captioning his shirtless picture with--“looking to have some fun while I’m out here”.  Northern Irish triathlete James Edgar, demonstrated his humorous side by claiming he is an endurance athlete who can “go all-night-long”, while South African hockey player Nqobile Ntuli advertised his need to meet some “wild troopers”.

Welsh hockey player Dale Hutchinson posted pictures while out clubbing and celebrating his medal win. Sprinter Julius Marius expressed keenness for a one-one conversation while Trinidadian badminton player Nicholas Bonkowsky professed that he is a “huge geek”. From shooters to boxers, weight-lifters to badminton players, scores of athletes updated their Tinder accounts to make the most out of their stay in exotic locales. The search for fun and love on Tinder was not restricted to athletes only but included games-village staff and several team officials. The most popular among them being, Bermuda chef de mission Katura Horton-Perinchief whose bio read that she is only available “temporarily”.

While most athletes were simply looking for a ‘good time’, Tinder helped them forge deeper connections with the picturesque continent of Australia itself. A number of them displayed their great excitement at an Australian excursion, with pictures of beaches, game venues etc. The widely popular mobile dating app, which allows its users to connect with potential suitors according to geographical locations, surely got temperatures soaring due to the influx of athletes with sculpted physiques.

Games Villages have always been famous for encouraging intimacy among athletes and Gold Coast Village 2018 was no exception. Part of the perks included giant bowls of condoms strategically placed around the Games village.

Tinder’s service has provided a much-needed respite for tired athletes, and a chance of frisky fraternizing between them. Here’s hoping that the athletes’ search for ‘love’ continues in the days following the end of the program!
