The ‘Earn while you learn’ initiative was first proposed in 2016 to appeal to and retain more international students studying in Dubai. This initiative enables foreign pupils to take part in internships related to their subject area or apply for part-time jobs.
This scheme is now gaining popularity among international students as they are able to acquire valuable work experience in their chosen field of study and network with potential employers. It also enables them to be independent and manage their finances.
This initiative applies to students studying at Dubai Creative Clusters (DCC) licensed universities housed within Dubai Knowledge Park and Dubai International Academic City and connects them to over 1,000 companies specialising in various domains.

Applicants can avail of a no-fee Student Part-Time Work Regulation permit provided by the Dubai Development Authority while student visa holders can apply for an internship legally. Pupils from other education hubs in the city can also take up part-time employment opportunities by applying to the UAE Labour Department for a temporary work permit after obtaining a No Objection Letter from their university.
These measures play a significant role in creating an employment hub for international students in Dubai. While speaking on this topic, Dr Abdulla Al Karam, Director General of Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) stated, “...Universities in Dubai have links with industry, as well as career guidance counselling designed to ensure that graduates have the best opportunities for employment in Dubai and abroad.

Apart from world-class educational facilities, internships and other job opportunities, foreign students in Dubai can also benefit from incentives such as student discounts and scholarships. The Government of UAE has also launched an array of visa schemes for international students such as postgraduate visas, residence permits, and renewable and extendable study permits.
