Because it was a Russel group uni and research is important/ what I want to do, it also specializes in semiconductors which I wanted to do and it was the best I got an offer for based on my predicted A-level grades.
Course Curriculum
It's broad which I like and I have some choices when it comes to modules but it teaches a lot of stuff that most of the year is unlikely to ever practically use or need which can be annoying at times when you need to learn the material to pass a test or do well on coursework.
Fees
The total cost is maximum at nine thousand pounds a year. The only additional costs are not really university related e.g accommodation. Books are provided first year and readily available across libraries in other years but not needed.
Examination Structure
80% weighted on 2-3 hour exams and 20% weighted on coursework, so exams are very important but there is some leeway. Exams have section a which included a lot of short questions hitting a wide range of topics more briefly (need to answer all) and section b is of equal length but has less questions so topics can be tested in more detail (chose 2 out of 3 questions to attempt)
Faculty
I have had good experiences, with both teaching and being able to have open conversations with them about course structure/ content. I have never had a problem finding staff in their office or getting replied to emails and the is a real sense that they care about their work and teaching.
