The Development, Technology and Innovation Policy degree fromÊUniversity College London (UCL)Êis suitable for:

  • - professionals (or those who would like to work) in development policy who would like to leverage science and tech innovations
  • - those with a background in science, technology or engineering who would like to collaborate with policy makers working in development

From adapting to climate change to enhancing agricultural productivity and providing electricity to the billions without access, developing countries need to harness scientific and technological innovation to transform their economies and improve human wellbeing.ÊHowever, these countries often have innovation systems that are weak, fragmented and not designed to respond to pressing national and local priorities.Ê

Today's development policy leaders need to be aware of the history behind current innovation pathways across developing country contexts, and be able to apply their creative capabilities in order to build innovation systems that sustain development.Ê

This cutting edge curriculum links expertise at UCL STEaPP with others working in the development and innovation space across UCL. Our MPA teaches you the tools, mental models and skills to creatively tackle these questions and foster vibrant, sustainable, profitable and inclusive economies across the developing world.

Key challenges

The MPA will tackle a series of pressing questions for policy makers, such as:

  • - How can developing countries achieve their development goals in the face of rapid technological change, increased global interdependencies, and a wide range of wicked problems such as climate change?
  • - How should developing countries engage in policy experimentation and/or prototyping?

- Should developing countries follow existing models or pioneer new approaches to innovation?

The MPA in Development, Technology and Innovation Policy blends coverage of core policy tools, regulation and analysis methods with a specialist focus on the context of international development and the technology and engineering innovations that can inform policy in this area.
