There are five course options available for studying the BSc Computer Science (Hons) at The University of Hull. The foundation year is ideal for students who do not have the academic background required for direct entry on to the full course. The Computer Science (Hons) programme offers a three-year study option and three-four year course options. You can choose to boost your employability further through an industrial placement, studying abroad for a year at one of our partner institutions or studying at Masters level in your final year.

We will give you a solid grounding in computer science fundamentals, but you can also specialise in the areas that interest you. We offer modules covering the full range of the discipline, including programming, computational science, artificial intelligence, computer graphics and even in starting your own high-tech business. Our degrees are accredited by the British Computer Society (BCS), meaning you gain full exemption from the BCSÕs Professional Examination as well as partial Chartered Engineer accreditation. This is the highest BCS award that undergraduate courses can achieve.

You will be able to benefit from unique CV-boosting activities such as our Rather Useful Seminar series, our 'Three Thing' development competitions and employer engagement opportunities. Our students have had outstanding success in the Microsoft Imagine Cup, a prestigious international competition which showcases student achievement. For five years running we had teams at the UK finals and have seen multiple UK stage wins (in one year we were first, second and third), as well as trips to the world finals staged in locations such as India and South Korea.

Future Prospects

Our graduates have been recruited by the likes of Codemasters, Criterion (Electronic Arts), Dynamo Games, Eutechnyx, Rare (Microsoft), Lionhead Studios (Microsoft), Pi Studios, Sony and Bohemia Interactive. In designing our degrees, we aim to provide you with a good theoretical and practical training which will interest potential employers and equip you with the tools to undertake further study.

The University has an excellent Careers and Employability Service, which gives one-to-one advice about possible careers. It also arranges recruiting visits by prospective employers during your ?nal year. The University does consistently well in the graduate employment category of national surveys, and it has one of the lowest graduate unemployment rates in the UK.

There are opportunities for graduates to undertake research, leading to an MSc or PhD, or both. Current research interests in the department include dependable systems, intelligent systems, and simulation and visualisation.
