At The University of Hull, you will research the MRes/ MA History and Archaeology from Palaeolithic America to the contemporary Philippines, by way of modern Australia, India, the Middle East, and Britain and Europe from the early middle ages to the 21st century. Thematic strengths include maritime, military, global, social, economic, environmental, cultural, intellectual and political history, as well as the history of slavery and of adaptive technologies.
History at Hull has a track record of internationally-significant research. In the recent REF 2014, 70% of our research was judged to be either 'world leading' or 'internationally significant'. Our research staff contribute to a range of research centres and units, including the Wilberforce Institute for the study of Slavery and Emancipation (WISE), the Maritime Historical Studies Centre, theÊAndrew Marvell CentreÊand the Centre for Adaptive Science and Sustainability (CASS).
Hull is the lead department in the Heritage Consortium, the AHRC-funded Doctoral Training Centre for Heritage Studies. As part of the North of England Consortium for Arts and Humanities, Hull also offers further doctoral funding opportunities across the arts and humanities, including History. These schemes provide joint supervision between two partner institutions, giving you access to an even greater range of expertise for supporting your research.
