This research will investigate the optimal planning of the gas and electricity networks in GB under a range of technological, economic, and policy related uncertainties. The objectives of this project are:
- Key uncertainties influencing optimal planning of gas and electricity networks will be identified, and their possible future values will be estimated and used to develop a scenario tree representing whole range of future possibilities up to 2050.
- An optimisation-based modelling tool will be developed to investigate expansion planning of integrated gas and electricity networks, considering the future key uncertainties.
- The modelling tool will be employed to quantify costs and security implications of the uncertainties in the GB gas and electricity supply sectors. Also, robust expansion strategies for the GB electricity and gas networks that minimise regret across possible future scenarios will be investigated.
