  • Students enhance their technical skills in various core areas of civil engineerings, such as advanced geotechnics and river and coastal engineering. They also further develop their conceptual understanding of critical aspects of structural engineering, such as advanced structural analysis and design, and become familiar with complex analysis and design techniques, modeling the causes and solutions of problems involving the real behavior of structures.
  • They acquire advanced knowledge and understanding of the design of structures under dynamic and earthquake conditions. Advanced project planning and visualization methods, such as building information modeling, are also integrated into the course. The dissertation is an opportunity to conduct a supervised research project, developing original knowledge in a specific area of civil or structural engineering.
  • Although the University cannot guarantee internships, they will provide students with practical support and advice on how to find and secure their own internship position.
  • A vocational internship is a great way to gain work experience and give their CV a competitive edge. Alternatively, a research internship will develop their research and academic skills by working as part of a research team in an academic setting, which is ideal for those who are interested in a career in research or academia.
  • A third option is to study abroad in an academic exchange with one of their partner universities. The study abroad option will incur additional costs such as travel and accommodation. Students must also take responsibility for ensuring they have the appropriate visa for study outside the UK, where relevant.
