Indian-origin Students chosen for Truman Scholarship

In 2022, 58 budding public service leaders from 53 prominent colleges and universities were chosen for Truman Scholarship. Four Indian-origin students, namely Avi Gupta, Eshika Kaul, Bhav Jain, and Amisha A. Kambath are also among the 58 selected as Truman Scholars.

Truman Scholars will receive $30,000 as financial support for post-graduation studies and other benefits like career counselling, leadership training, and employment opportunities with the Federal Government.

Among the Indian-Australian scholars. Amisha is from California, studies social studies and economics at Harvard University, and Eshika from New Jersey studies economics and peace and justice at Wellesley College. 

Avi is based in Oregan and studies political science and computer science with specialisations in American politics and artificial intelligence (AI) and Bhav is from Pennsylvania, interested in global health care delivery and transforming clinical care as a future physician-policymaker.

Dr Terry Babcock-Lumish, Current Executive Secretary of the Foundation, and a 1996 Truman Scholar from Pennsylvania stated that ‘we have confidence that these 58 new Trumans will meet their Generations Challenges together.’

The Truman Scholarship is a renowned graduate scholarship for potential public service leaders in the United States. The Scholarship is awarded to college juniors who have displayed exceptional leadership potential and are planning to pursue careers in public service like Government, Education, Nonprofit or advocacy sectors.

The official Scholarship website states that, ‘...Selected from across America, the 2022 Truman Scholars reflect our country as innovative, purposeful, patriotic problem solvers, never shying away from a challenge.’

The Scholarship was set up by Congress in 1975 as a tribute to President Harry S. Truman. The Truman Scholarship continues to support and inspire generations of Public Service Leaders.
