FAQs
Ques. I am an international student, how are my application requirements different?
Ans. The same application forms are provided to international applicants and most of the processes they need to follow are very much similar to that of domestic applicants. Only additional requirements include providing evidence of English language proficiency. Also, if you feel you may require financial aid during your study then you must apply for the need-based financial aid provided by the University of Chicago. This needs to be applied at the time of submitting your application.
Ques. I did not have a school counselor. Who will provide my Secondary School Report?
Ans. In cases where a school does not have counselors, any school administrator is fit to complete your secondary school report. Independently hired consultants who are not a part of that organization can not complete your school report.
Ques. What grades will confirm my admittance to the University of Chicago?
Ans. While good academic grades are important for getting a place here, a large variety of information determines your admission. The university has a holistic reading process which includes assessment of all your application components, including test scores, recommendations, and the overall pool of applicants.
Ques. How should I upload my documents? Do I include photocopies of my awards and certificates?
Ans. Documents can be scanned and uploaded while filling out your application. Please ensure that your application materials are in English, or have been provided with an additional English translation. In case of major activities and awards, no need to send their photocopies or certificates, merely listing them on the application is sufficient.
Ques. Can students apply to UChicago, if they were unable to take the SAT/ACT?
Ans. UChicago is test-optional, which means that we do not require students to share results of the SAT or ACT if you have been unable to test or prefer not to share their scores
Ques. What type of supplemental materials can be submitted?
Ans. The most effective supplements share a representative sample of work that is important to the applicant. One to two minutes of recorded work, two or three high-quality prints of a work of art, the best paragraph or page of a creatively written work, or an abstract of original research are recommended.
Ques. Is there a word limit for the essay responses?
Ans. They suggest that you note any word limits for Coalition or Common Application essays; however, there are no strict word limits on the UChicago supplement essays. For the extended essay (where you choose one of several prompts), they suggest that you aim for around 650 words.
