Majors in philosophy are knowledgeable about the main contemporary and historical areas, authors, concepts, methodologies, techniques and problems of philosophy. The benefits of a philosophy major extend well beyond philosophy, and our students go on to pursue careers in many areas, including law, medicine, finance, the arts, and academia.
Our overall goal is to offer a wider array of courses that better reflects the diversity of philosophical topics, participants to these debates, and student interest in philosophy. We also want to give students the opportunity to work more closely with professors.
Eligibility & Entry Requirement
Academic Requirements:
- Submit secondary school report with transcripts, school profile and counselor evaluation
- Submit a Dartmouth writing supplement material
- Submit two teacher evaluations
- Submitting SAT/ACT score is optional
- Applicants are strongly recommended to provide peer recommendations
- Submit English Language Proficiency test scores
English Language Requirements:
- TOEFL: minimum 100 in ibt;
- IELTS: minimum 7.0
- Duolingo: minimum 130
