Students completing the program will be well equipped for a successful career in accounting. Hunter? s MS in Accounting has been approved by the New York State Department of Education as a CPA licensure-qualifying program for students who have earned a BS in Accounting at Hunter College or an equivalent undergraduate program.

New York State requires all CPA candidates to have completed 150-credit hours in order to sit for the Uniform CPA Examinations. The graduates of the MS program will be able to fulfill this requirement.

The MS program is a 30-credit program consisting of six required courses, two accounting electives, and two non-accounting electives. It can be pursued on a full-time or part-time basis. The program curriculum and admission requirements are outlined below. The accounting faculty within the Economics Department at Hunter College has established a record of teaching excellence, and has produced research of the highest quality within the field of accounting.

Eligibility & Entry Requirement

Academic Requirements:

  • Applicant must have completed a bachelors degree from an accredited university
  • Submit official transcripts of all high school and other education completed
  • Official transcripts must contain the overall GPA and success in individual subjects and rigor of the curriculum completed
  • Applicant must have completed undergraduate courses in accounting, including:Principles of Accounting I and II (ACC 27100 and ACC 27200); Intermediate Accounting I and II (ACC 37100 and 37200); Advanced Accounting I and II (ACC 47100 and 47200); Business Law I and II (ACC 28000 and 38000); Cost Accounting (ACC 37400); Individual and Business Taxation (ACC 37300 and 47300); Auditing (ACC 47500)

  • Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 2.75 or equivalent and 3.0 in accounting courses
  • Submitting GMAT scores
  • Applicants should submit two academic or professional letters of recommendation 
  • Submit English Language Proficiency test scores

English Language Requirements:

  • TOEFL: minimum 71 in iBT; 550 in PBT; 
  • IELTS: minimum 6.5
