Courses, collaborative research experiences with faculty and internship opportunities are designed to introduce students to biological principles at the molecular, cellular, organismal, population and ecosystem levels and to allow students to experience and understand the processes, applications and limitations of biology as a scientific endeavor. Emphasis is placed on integrating biology with a Biblical worldview in a way that encourages service to Christ and His Kingdom.
The Department of Biology is located in the Meyer Science Building on the second floor. Our facilities include a greenhouse, eight large instructional laboratories,?a DNA sequencer, and a well-equipped ecology lab, all used by students and faculty for collaborative research projects. In addition to the usual undergraduate instructional laboratory equipment, several PCR cyclers and a fluorescent microscope are available for classes and research. The?Wheaton College Science Station?in South Dakota provides an excellent Science Station setting for summer instruction. A?marine biology class?includes a field trip to a field station in Belize.
Wheaton graduates are well prepared to enter graduate or professional schools or to gain employment in a variety of occupations. The examples shown below represent only a sampling of possibilities depending on the particular interests of the graduate. In the current climate of concern about applications of biotechnology and genetic engineering a background in biology is particularly helpful to those entering the pastorate or law.
