- The Mathematics and Statistics majors learn with faculty how to think and understand and how to solve problems. Every major gives a full colloquium talk and participates in a senior seminar. Many majors take tutorials and do original research. We all have a lot of fun together. Majors typically go on in mathematics, statistics, economics, other sciences, engineering, law, medicine, business, finance, consulting, teaching, and other careers.
- The major in Statistics is designed to help students meet the following learning objectives:
- Understand the central ideas of statistical thinking and data science,
- Develop problem-solving abilities by working with real data, using them to make informed decisions and conclusions,
- Increase interdisciplinary skills by applying statistical methods to an application area of interest and understanding the limits of statistical modeling,
- Communicate the results of statistical analyses to both technical and non-technical audiences.

- Mid-Year Report (Due February 26* or for schools on a trimester, when 2nd-trimester grades are available)
- All students applying for entry at Williams in fall 2021, 2022, or 2023 may choose whether to submit SAT/ACT exam results. Regardless, their application will be reviewed in a thorough, student-centered, holistic admission process.
-
If a student’s first language or the language of academic instruction isn't English, we'll use their application as an assessment of your English proficiency. Williams doesn't require students to take a proficiency exam like the TOEFL, IELTS, or Duolingo, but William’s happy to review scores from those tests if students would like to submit them.
