The infrastructure and innovation at this university is second to none. Professors are of high pedigree and the freedom to be able to study the courses that would align with my future goals. Diversity at the university enables students to understand different perspectives and think creatively.
Course Curriculum
The course gives you a solid understanding of the foundations and encourages you to use modern techniques and methods to solve problems. The professors are well versed in the industry standard procedures and are very helpful. You get to interact with industry experts often as professors tend to organize meets and seminars to keep updated with the real tech and it’s current problems. In terms of research, each professor has her own style of conducting research. It is very fun and exciting and you have a chance to read real papers and case studies of real technologies. Given ASU is a innovation leader in the US, there is always an emphasis to stay up to date in terms of research and coursework.
Exams
My scores GRE 315 quant 164 verbal 151 IELTS 7 reading 7 writing 6.5 listening 8 speaking 7
Placement
For people from electronics, energy and construction backgrounds there are large number of opportunities locally and pan US. Same goes for computer related courses. Silicon Valley is very close and lot of people tend to move to the Bay Area after graduation because of the opportunities. Proximity to the Bay Area makes it easier to find pharma and biotech opportunities as well.
Internship
I am in my first semester and haven’t opted for CPT just yet. I have my interviews with Qualcomm for a firmware engineer role very soon and hope to get into that. The process is a resume review followed by interview. The process is quite standard. Currently, I am working part time as an embedded systems aide at School of Earth and Space exploration where I work in firmware for satellites.
Fees
The total tuition fee comes up to 54000 USD. If you chose to stay off campus you might spend 12000 USD while living luxuriously. You can get away for way cheaper if you share accommodations(very common).
Scholarship
I did not receive a scholarship but got a Research position which covers 30% of my tuition.
Faculty
My professors are extremely scholarly and best in business. They have deep conceptual knowledge and have progressed only upward in their journey. They create a very conducive environment for learning and encourage you to find new methods and procedures instead of being dogmatic in their approach. The visual thinking aspect about their teaching is the best part, which is extremely valuable in terms of understanding a subject.
Campus Life
The campus is very eventful. There are fun trivia nights, pool parties and movie nights. On the technical front there are guest lectures from highly esteemed faculty from other universities and industry experts every Friday. The libraries are open 24*7 for use and you will find all resources you need there. The Student fitness center is free for use and is extremely clean and tidy. For most sports events you tend to get free tshirts and pizzas. The WiFi spans the entire campus without connection issues. There are a number of incubators and research centers where you can explore your research interests.
Hostel
Single accommodation costs somewhere between 600-800 USD including utilities etc. other expenses in a month would be a maximum of 100USD. Can be cheaper if you share the space. Utilities all together shouldn’t be more than 50$ and another 50 for WiFi.
