Madhura Acharya Review at Northeastern University [NEU], Boston | Collegedunia

Northeastern in a Nutshell

The biotechnology program offered at northeastern is one of the highest rated in the US. Also the location being Boston which is basically the hub of all the major biotech companies in the US made it my top choice.

Course Curriculum :

The course syllabus is excellent, focusing primarily on drug discovery and development and it?s real life applications. Several speakers from the industry are frequently invited into our classrooms to speak about their experience working and what they do.

Exams :

The university requires GRE scores and also a proficiency of English exam like IELTS (which is what I took), TOEFL or DuoLingo. They also required my official transcripts from the university and my degree certificate. I had to write a single page detailed resume and also a 1000 word Statement of Purpose. University encourages a GRE score above 310 (cumulative) and an IELTS score above 7.

Placement :

Northeastern has a grade CPT program an immaturity of students get placed in the full-time position after their CPT most students secure a CPT during their course itself. I am personally looking to declare regulatory affairs as my concentration so I have interviewed with a bunch of companies like seres therapeutics, Takeda pharmaceuticals, MegaFood and Abcam. The average salary of biotechnology graduate from Northeastern is about $80,000 annually

Fees :

The total tuition fees for the program are about $56,000.

Faculty :

Each faculty is Assigned about 30 students per section. The faculty is excellent all having full-time jobs in biotech companies like Biogen Pfizer Moderna. They all possess a deep knowledge of their subjects and are extremely approachable when it comes to queries and hold regular office hours throughout the week via zoom or walk in and take the students doubt on an individual basis. Some of the faculty that has left an impact on me has been Prof. Jaren Landen (Biotechnology Enterprise), Dr. Anna Radovic (Molecular Biotechnology) and Dr. Sanaa Jehi (protein chemistry)

Campus Life :

The campus itself is huge with about four buildings dedicated to the life sciences. There are several student clubs catering to multiple interests like research programming robotics dance music add a lot more. The campus is very lively and continuously has some or the other events going on. And the best part is you will always find free food on campus. My favorite Spot is the student center with several activities for students to do in between classes or anytime over the weekends. They also have a state of the art gym and multiple basketball courts and running tracks on campus along with a full size football field.

Hostel :

While northeastern has a lot of dorms available, most graduate students prefer to live off in off campus apartments. I personally live in a shared 3 bedroom apartment with a few of my fellow students belonging to different streams. Boston as a city is slightly expensive in terms of rent, but we?ve scored a good accommodation that is close to the university.
