Marshall University: Best Decision Ever

Shelby Wright
9.2 /10

I chose Marshall because when I stepped foot on campus I knew I was home. I was interested in their Forensics program since it is such a fantastic program. Four years later and I still don't regret my decision.

Course Curriculum :

I absolutely love my classes. It took me a while to adjust to the college classes but once I was actually able to get into my major classes I have been exposed to so much content that will be beneficial for my future career in Forensics.

Exams :

I have taken the SAT with a score of 1600 and I've taken the ACT with a score of 28. For my major, I haven't taken any exams yet for certifications.

Placement :

The placements and job opportunities are also great at Marshall. They send out emails weekly for job openings for not only the surrounding area but also nationwide which allows ample opportunities for students.

Internship :

Yes, they offer so many internships. I haven't completed one yet but I intend to this summer with the digital forensics program. Last summer the mobile forensics team recovered data off of a corroded phone and the summer before they helped stop sex trafficking in the tristate. That's just a glimpse at the many opportunities for internships offered.

Events :

Events on campus include: Earth day- different organizations on campus bring out different projects that benefit the environment, including promoting our bike share program, Rolling Thunder. Rent a puppy- run by multiple organizations to raise money for their desired nonprofit organization. Unity day- all of the multicultural organizations hold an event on the plaza celebrating different aspects of their culture with information, food samples, etc. Walk a mile in her shoes- raises money for Branches, a shelter for victims of domestic violence. Black history month- celebrates different aspects through multiple events such as ebony ball.

Fees :

We have meal plans that can be purchased and they offer FLEX and HERDPOINTS which can be used to pay for food on campus. The Rec center comes with tuition but if you want to take extra rec classes like self-defense or advanced yoga.

Scholarship :

Yes. I have gotten financial aid and it's actually really easy to get financial aid from Marshall. Plus the bursar's office is very easy to work with.

Examination Structure :

The exams are pretty straightforward at Marshall. It all depends on your professor but most exams are a mixture of multiple choice, true/false, short answer, fill in the blank, etc. Usually, it requires a week or two of studying.

Faculty :

They are honestly the best. My professors take the time to actually get to know their students rather than us just be a number. Yes, you're always going to have a professor that you may not like but overall the professors at Marshall are outstanding. Especially my three digital forensics professors: John Sammons, Bill Gardner, and Josh Brunty. They go above and beyond in and outside of the classroom.

Hostel :

For the first two years, I lived in the dorms which were actually a really good experience. In my junior year I lived off campus in my sorority house and this year I live in an apartment. The great thing about Marshall is the amount of housing offered. It's easy to find a place to live both on and off campus depending on your preference.
