My family made me choose this college because it was close to home and I only have to cover in-state tuition. It is a good college for my major because one of the campuses is near the water so I can study there too. It's a heavy nursing and science school. But is also big for briskness and engineering.
Course Curriculum :
The course curriculum is okay. You have to be careful with your academic advisor, some care and will guide you step by step(mostly science department advisors) but others will tell you to take classes you don't end up needing to graduate and this tends to put people behind a lot.
Exams :
They accept SAT and ACT exams on applications but they also make you take a math entrance exam during orientation week.
Placement :
The placement tests are okay but they will openly ask the class if you have a disability and for you to come to see them at the end of class so you can watch all the people with academic disabilities go up and I think that there should be better privacy about that.
Internship :
Yes, I have not interned yet but I am constantly receiving emails about different internships from the school and they host seminars to meet internships. They also offer a course called URI 101 which should introduce you to teachers in your major and they will tell you about internships they offer to students through the school and outside companies.
Events :
They are very into Greek week at URI. We are a heavy Greek life school so there is always some type of Greek life event happening. We are also into our basketball team and the games can be big. Some events that aren't run by the school are the World Series and super bowl. EVERYBODY AND I MEAN EVERYBODY watches those events and when we win they riot. You can google it and see the destruction. They set trash bins on fire and ripstop signs out of the ground and swing on the football goal posts.
Fees :
Tuition instate is 26k plus 5k per semester for housing and 2k per semester for the food plan. You also are expected to dish out 1k a semester for books and materials.
Scholarship :
It is pretty easy to get financial aid. The office workers are a little rude but relatively help you through the process if you can't figure it out on your own. They also offer a work-study program if you need extra assistance.
Examination Structure :
Exams week is taken seriously by the school and they make sure dorms are quiet at all times during that week. They also offer group study lounges in the library and the library is always open 24 hours.
Faculty :
The faculty is hit or miss. The science department has strong, caring teachers who offer extra help if you need it but the math department hasn?t very limited help hours and are horrible lectures to take because they don't teach they read definitions. The history/GEG(geography) classes can suck because one specific teacher always comes 15 minutes late, refuses to you the internet so he won't answer emails, didn't give a syllabus until a month into class and never tells you when tests or exams are. Another issue with GEG is that the quizzes you on maps but teaches you about weather conditions so it's very confusing.
Hostel :
The dorms are crappy and full of roaches for the most part. The RA doesn't help much and it always smells like weed and alcohol because we are a heavily Greek school. The off-campus housing nearby is limited and expensive.
