Known as Montana’s premier STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) university in Montana. Initially started as Montana State School of Mines, the university has jumped leaps and bounds to become a public university. The university offers a variety of UG and PG courses across 4 different schools and colleges- mines and engineering, Letters, Science and Professional Studies; Highlands College; Highlands College and Graduate School.

Montana Tech Programs

Montana Tech offers a range of programs for its students designed specifically to help them accomplish their goals. Undergraduate, Graduate, associate and Certificate courses can be pursued in this university.

  • School of Mines and Engineering provides diverse engineering disciplines available mainly related to mines, petroleum, material science, metallurgy.
  • Under the College of Letters, Science and Professional Studies (CLASPS), programs on biological sciences, chemistry, health and computer-related mathematics also interdisciplinary programs are covered.
  • Graduate school will help you master the knowledge to finer details and make professional advancement in your career.

Montana Tech Campus and Residence

Campus

Set in a rural setting, the campus is lodged midway between Yellowstone and Glacier national parks. It houses the Mineral museum and offers several activities like whitewater rafts, lap swimming, and other off-academics programs which make a student’s life lively and exuberant.

The Montana Tech's North Hall consists of Engineering Hall, Main Hall, the Chemistry/Biology Building, the Petroleum Building, the Mining/Geology Building, the Health, Physical Education and Recreation (HPER) Complex, the Engineering Lab and Classroom Building, and the Natural Resource Building.

The South Campus is home to a 60000 sq feet of classroom and lab space.

Montana Tech provides a hands-on learning experience through experiential learning and internships. Oredigger media is a student-run media organization that consolidates the newspaper, The technocrat and Radio FM program.

A very interesting and innovative step is taken by Montana tech to go cashless called Digger Dollar program where a declining balance account is created for students to avoid the hassles of dealing with cash. Discount on several services makes it pocket-friendly for students.

The Montana Bureau of Mines and Geology is a research centre at the university campus where the researchers develop mineral, energy and water resources.

Accommodation

Montana Tech provides amazing on-campus housing options for students in USA with three co-residence halls accommodating approximately 370 students.

  • Living Learning Center - The newest hall with over 60% single-occupancy rooms and 40% double-occupancy or two-person suite single options.
  • Prospector Hall - Has space for 200 odd students with mostly double occupancy and a few single rooms. In addition, several suites are present with 2-3 bedrooms sharing a private living area and bathroom.
  • Centennial Hall - Comprises suite-style rooms on the entire third floor but the rest of the building encompasses double-occupancy rooms.

Apart from all the basic amenities provided, extra benefits include nutritional counselling and sack meals for students who might be away on class-related matters. The housing committee also provides in-room services during emergency cases. Besides residence halls, Montana tech maintains apartment units that are leased to students who are living off-campus.

Interested candidates are required to submit an online application along with an initial refundable deposit of 100 USD made out to the MTU housing committee.

Montana Tech Admission Process

Where to Apply - Interested candidates seeking to get admission at MTU can apply through the official application portal
Application fee - All UG candidates are required to pay a non-refundable application fee of 30 USD. Whereas, for graduates, the application fee is 50 USD.
When to Apply - While the application deadline for freshmen candidates is:

  • August 17 (Fall Season)
  • December 30 (Spring Season)

Montana Tech University’s graduate programs, the deadlines are -

Montana Tech Scholarships and Financial Aid

Montana Tech Work while you study

Students who want to alleviate their cost of expenses can work within the university and simultaneously gain work experience. The Enrollment Services office offers and collects student employment paperwork and timecards. The Payroll office processes timecards for student employee paychecks.

Students who have never worked on campus before (or within the last 2 years) need to submit the following forms for student employment :

  • Form I-9 (completed within 3 working days post the employee start date)
