The College offers 13 degree programs that equip students with the technical and management skills needed to launch careers in fields such as public management, planning, public safety, historic preservation, environmental studies, economic development and housing. Degree completion programs are available for community college transfer students with A.A., A.A.S., or A.A.B. degrees in human services, health sciences, paralegal studies, police science, emergency management, or fire science.
Environmental Studies
As an Environmental Studies major, you will explore environment-friendly urban development. You will focus on environmental problems, policy issues, and the social context of environmental conflicts.
Your courses will come from the fields of geography, economics, biology, chemistry, physics, geology, environmental science, urban planning, and statistics. You can choose one or more specializations from the following areas:
- Environmental planning
- Environmental management
- Earth sciences
- Life sciences
CAREER OPPORTUNITIES
Graduates of the environmental studies program work in the public, private, and nonprofit sectors in environmental planning, land-use planning, environmental review, recycling coordination, advocacy, and environmental health and safety.
A major in Environmental Studies is good preparation for law school or for graduate study in Public Administration, Urban Planning, Environmental Studies, or Urban Studies.
Career Services assistance is available at the college through job postings, government and post-graduate internship opportunities, and a mentoring program. The Cleveland State Career Services Office offers career counseling, interview preparation, and resume review on site. The required environmental studies internship gives students practical experience in settings designed to complement their degree program.
