- Human development explores the developmental process in humans throughout the life cycle. Students in this major learn about the social, emotional and cognitive development of humans, all within the context of everyday lives, families, and communities. The major emphasizes hands-on learning experiences.
- Human development graduates find employment as educators in early childhood and more advanced settings, as social workers and counselors, and in governmental or private agency settings relating to social welfare and recreation. Graduates are also prepared to pursue advanced degrees in behavioral and social sciences, education, social work, family law or health sciences.

Eligibility & Entry Requirement
Academic Eligibility:
- A high school diploma (or equivalent)
- Students who are not residents of California must earn a GPA of 3.40 or higher.
- SAT/ACT scores
- The University of California Board of Regents unanimously approved the suspension of the standardized test requirement (ACT/SAT) for all California freshman applicants until fall 2024.
- If students’ native language and school language of instruction prior to their study in the United States were not English, then they must demonstrate English proficiency. They can do so by submitting TOELF/IELTS score reports.
Indian Eligibility:
- Students must complete their standard XII years of education and sit for 10th and 12th-year board/state examinations.
Scores Required
SAT/ACT scores are made optional until fall 2024.
