Students are given an education plan upon entering the program; they are assigned an adviser who will assist them throughout their bachelor?s degree program. Students must maintain at least a 3.2 cumulative average and major average.
The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders is housed in Monroe Hall. The Monroe Hall Speech and Hearing Center is a fully operational clinic. It features all of the equipment and accommodations essential to a quality educational program in speech-language pathology. Graduate students are able to gain hands-on experience with people who exhibit various types of communication disorders. The clinic serves people of all ages, infancy through adult, from the surrounding Pocono area, the Lehigh Valley and New Jersey, as well as students and faculty/staff from ESU who are in need of rehabilitation/habilitation services. Monroe Hall has several observable therapy rooms, and all the necessary materials and resources for conducting therapy.
The master's program prepares:
- Students to take the ETS Praxis Exam in Speech-Language Pathology which is a requirement for the Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC).
- Students to be eligible for a Pennsylvania license in speech?language pathology.
- Students to complete requirements for the Instructional I Certificate (Teacher of the Speech?Language Impaired) in Pennsylvania schools (with the completion of certain education courses, a student teaching semester, and required state testing). The choice of the school certification option may lengthen the students' degree program.
