The purpose of the Walter J. Lemke Department of Journalism is to provide students with knowledge of the history, theory, and ethics of mass communications, to educate students in journalistic skills, including the ability to express themselves logically and clearly, and to guide them in securing specialized knowledge of society appropriate to journalistic careers.

Concentrations

Journalism majors must also fulfill the requirements for either the news/editorial concentration, the advertising/public relations concentration, or the broadcast concentration. Students must select a concentration when they enter the department. Specific non-journalism courses in addition to the journalism courses are required for the advertising/public relations concentration. The requirements for each concentration are listed in the tabs.

Combined Majors

The Lemke Department of Journalism cooperates with the Department of Political Science and the Department of English to offer two combined majors, each of which leads to a Bachelor of Arts degree. Requirements for each combined major are listed in the tabs.
