Sociology is the study of how people organize themselves and behave in society. It covers a wide area including politics, religion, the economy, the legal system, the family, social work, and folklore. Students who major in Sociology gain a cross-cultural perspective into understanding human behavior and learn the statistical and research methods of a professional sociologist. You choose from courses such as social psychology, social and cultural change, racial and ethnic groups, social welfare services, marriage and family, death and dying and medical sociology. Sociology majors can choose a concentration in Criminal Justice or a minor in Social Work/Life Span Services and complete at least four courses in that concentration, including correctional systems, clinical intervention, introduction to criminal justice or social work, special topics and 3-6 semester credit-hour field placements. Participation in the Psych-Soc Club enhances your education experience through service projects and speaker presentations.
