Doctor of Philosophy in Psychology at the University of California Los Angeles is a 6 years (18 quarters) program.
This program is an on-campus program.
The admission of the students is for the fall quarter and on a full-time basis only.
Students are required to obtain a thorough background in research methodology and psychological theory by completing requirements for a major.
PhD program consists of a solid background of coursework in the realm of psychology, including lab courses and classes in statistics and research methods.
The major fields or subdisciplines are offered in the following eight areas of psychology:
- Behavioral Neuroscience
- Clinical Psychology
- Cognitive Psychology
- Developmental Psychology
- Health Psychology
- Learning and Behavior Psychology
- Quantitative Psychology
- Social Psychology.
The core program has three parts: a two-quarter statistics series, four core courses, one of which must be a third approved methods course, and a three quarter research sequence.
Rigorous scientific training is the foundation of the UCLA Psychology PhD program.
As part of this training, the department encourages student participation in the activities of a number of related departments, schools, or organized research units of the University.
University provides the flexibility to complete the program in 9 years (27 quarters).
UCLA is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges and by numerous special agencies.
Graduates are prepared for careers in both academic and applied settings including positions at universities and colleges, research and governmental organizations, and business and industry.

Eligibility & Entry Requirement

Academic Eligibility:

Students must complete a master’s degree from an accredited college or university.
Students having a broad knowledge of mathematical, biological, and social sciences is also recommended.
Students hold a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale in the graduate study.
Students need to submit a minimum GRE exam score (General and Subject in Psychology taken within the last five years).

Indian Student Eligibility:

Indian students are eligible to apply if they meet one of the following eligibility criteria:

Students must have completed an Honours bachelor degree in first or upper second class.
Or, students must complete a master's degree with first-class in a relevant field from a recognized institution.

Along with the minimum eligibility requirements, international students hailing from non-English speaking countries need to prove English proficiency through IELTS/TOEFL/any equivalent test to get admission to this program.
