The Human Factors and Ergonomics (HFE) graduate program is an interdisciplinary program with graduate faculty representing the College of Design, the College of Science and Engineering, the College of Education and Human Development, the College of Liberal Arts, and the School of Public Health.
The Human Factors and Ergonomics (HFE) graduate program at the University of Minnesota addresses human performance and how it can be enhanced through the design of products, tools, systems, interfaces, working environments, processes, and organizations.
Students will focus on the study of human interaction—interaction with things, environments, and processes—to effectively support people in their work and living activities.
Their varied curriculum covers the foundations of human cognitive and physical factors as well as statistics, experimental design, and research ethics training.
By virtue of this interdisciplinary coursework, students will gain a unique perspective from multiple disciplinary standpoints and will be prepared to approach, develop, and evaluate physical and digital systems that are safe, effective, and enjoyable to use.
HFE has applications ranging from clothing and living spaces to business processes, the design of health care processes and technology, computer interfaces, and spacecraft cockpits.
The MSc program consists of 30 credits.

Eligibility & Entry Requirement

Academic Eligibility:

Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree in Human Factors and Ergonomics or equivalent from a recognized institution.
A GPA of at least 3.0/4.0 is required to be eligible for the program.

Indian Student Eligibility:

Students must complete an undergraduate degree with first-class in a relevant field from a highly ranked university in India.
Or, students completed a master's degree with first-class in a relevant field from a recognized institution.

Along with the minimum eligibility requirements, international students hailing from non-English speaking countries need to prove English proficiency through IELTS/TOEFL/any equivalent test to get admission to this program.
