The BA/BS in Media Studies is designed specifically for adults and transfer students who want to be well prepared for professional work in a range of media fields such as film, video, web, mobile, print, games, and social media. The major also offers pathways to a Bachelor's-Master's option with the MA in Media Studies. The program is distinguished by its interdisciplinary breadth and its commitment to creating media in the service of a more just and humane world.
Guided by a faculty of practicing professionals, award winners, and industry leaders, you may choose to complete a short film, write a feature screenplay, devise a business plan for a media startup, study the history of world cinema movements, or analyze the role of social media in a global human rights campaign. Designed for adults and transfer students, our program can be completed through part-time or full-time study, and offers once-a-week evening courses, plus online learning options. The screenwriting and self-designed concentrations can be completed entirely online.

As part of the New School Bachelor's Program for Adults and Transfer Students, the Media Studies major enables you to transfer up to 84 credits into program, including credits earned for relevant life experience.
Career Paths
Media Studies graduates are prepared to begin careers as entrepreneurs, administrators, technicians, artists, and workers in the highly varied areas of modern media and its related industries. Options include camera technician in established forms (television, film), manager in a new media company, new media technology entrepreneur, independent filmmaker, film production assistant, advertising production manager, and marketing researcher. Students are also prepared to pursue further academic study in media studies or a related field, and may apply to continue their academic work at The New School through graduate programs such as the MA in Media Studies and MS in Media Management.
