- The Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (MAE) at North Carolina State University (Raleigh, NC) is the largest in the state and among the largest and most prominent in the nation.

- Overall grade point average (GPA) is at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale from an accredited institution.
- Undergraduate major is in a technical area which satisfies the prerequisites for graduate coursework in MAE
- An international applicant has to have a competitive TOEFL score.
- Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores are competitive.
