With courses in Private Pilot, Instrument Pilot, and Commercial Pilot Ground; Aviation Meteorology; Laws and Regulations; Safety and Security; Human Factors; Aircraft Systems; and Aviation Dispatch; this Bachelor of Science degree in Aviation Dispatch will prepare you to earn your Aircraft Dispatch Certificate from the Federal Aviation Administration.
Aircraft Dispatchers work with the world's major and regional airlines and share responsibility for safety of the flight with the Captain of the aircraft. The dispatcher is responsible for all phases of a particular flight--from planning to landing. A dispatcher may have the authority to delay, divert or cancel a flight at any time, and a flight might not be able to be released without the signature of both the pilot in command and the dispatcher. Although dispatchers daily work on the ground, typically in the main airline operations center, they must understand all aspects of flight to ensure that they can handle any situation that arises while an aircraft is in the air.
Although a person must be at least 21 years of age to be eligible to take the aircraft dispatcher knowledge test (typically while a student at CBU), a person must be at least 23 years of age to be eligible for the aircraft dispatchers certificate (possibly after graduation from CBU). Once graduated with a degree in Aviation Dispatch from CBU and having successfully completed the aircraft dispatcher knowledge test, graduates may be employed as an airline crew scheduler while awaiting their 23rd birthday and their right to become an airline dispatcher.
