Bachelor of Science [B.S] [Kinesiology - Fitness and Wellness Specialist] From University of Utah

The Fitness and Wellness Specialist focus area is a vocational program that is committed to preparing students to enter the fitness, health and wellness fields. Students will be able to help optimize fitness and wellness experiences for children and adults, administer safe and effective fitness programs, adapt and modify physical activity for individuals with special needs and promote physical activity in the community.

Students will gain first-hand experience working with individuals in a fitness setting by working at PEAK Health and Fitness on campus and through an internship in the community. The required elective courses in Health, Kinesiology and Recreation, and Nutrition and Integrative Physiology have been selected by the department to enhance the knowledge learned in the major.

This focus area has been designed to provide future professionals with the coursework and practical experience needed to pursue careers in Worksite Health/Fitness Promotion, Commercial Fitness, Corporate Wellness, Personal Training, Hospital-based Fitness Clinics such as Cardiac Rehab and Pulmonary Rehab, Strength & Conditioning as well as prepare students for graduate programs in healthcare fields such as Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Physician’s Assistant, Public Health, and many others. As a student, you may be required to complete any prerequisite courses for graduate programs in addition to major and University requirements.
