Art history at USD is approached as a discipline with a history, and students examine the historical and theoretical frames that have shaped its definition over time.
Courses in art history examine art and visual culture in their contexts: probing the intertwining of form, content and meaning; and investigating the theoretical lenses that have been enlisted to discern the import of art, architecture and material culture.
Art History majors choose one of four emphases:
- History of Art
- Museum and Curatorial Practice
- History and Theory of Architecture
- Global History of Modern and Contemporary Art and Architecture
Eligibility & Entry Requirement
Academic Requirements:
- Submit official transcripts of high school with grades of each year and English translation
- Official transcripts should be evaluated course by course by an accredited agency like WES, ECE or IERF
- Submit an essay
- Submit an academic letter of recommendation
- Submitting SAT/ACT score is optional
- Submit English Language Proficiency test scores
English Language Requirements:
- TOEFL: minimum 80 in iBT
- IELTS: minimum 6.5
- Duolingo: minimum 115
