Explore the past, understand the present, and plan for the future in a global society. Offering a variety of courses, the History Department from the University of San Diego is dedicated to excellent teaching and producing award-winning research. Students learn to work with original sources and to think and write critically about a wide variety of historical problems.
History majors are required to complete 12 units of lower-division coursework. In addition, majors must finish 25 units of upper-division coursework, including HIST 490 (one unit) and HIST 495W, to be taken consecutively during the senior year.
In the major, students must also complete at least two upper-division courses in each of the following three categories: 1) the United States; 2) Europe; and 3) World.
Students may choose to do a three-unit internship at one of the many museums and historical societies located in San Diego.
Eligibility & Entry Requirement
Academic Requirements:
- Submit official transcripts of high school with grades of each year and English translation
- Official transcripts should be evaluated course by course by an accredited agency like WES, ECE or IERF
- Submit an essay
- Submit an academic letter of recommendation
- Submitting SAT/ACT score is optional
- Submit English Language Proficiency test scores
English Language Requirements:
- TOEFL: minimum 80 in iBT
- IELTS: minimum 6.5
- Duolingo: minimum 115
