International Student Admissions

The university accepts international students every year into all of its three campuses. International students make up 2% of the total student population. Undergraduate applicants must necessarily have completed their secondary education with a satisfactory aggregate score. Similarly, postgraduate applicants must also have a bachelor’s degree in a related field from a recognized university.

Visa Process for International Students

Once international students receive an admissions letter from the university, the student has to go through certain steps in order to start the visa process. The following steps are to be followed to obtain a student visa. 

  • The student must fill up the application to receive Form I-20. This is an essential form to apply for a visa interview. The form will be needed post the visa is received too. 
  • Send in financial documents, as specified in the application to receive Form I-20. The university requires proof of availability of sufficient funds to pay tuition and other related fees for one full academic year. 
  • Receive the I-20 form and apply for the visa interview at the nearest American Embassy. Dates for the interview are limited and one must book the interview as soon as possible.

Northeastern State University offers programs both through on-campus mode and online mode. For both modes, the university requires candidates to complete their applications at least 3 months before the start of the semester. Ans. Northeastern State University requires incoming students who have not completed 30 hours prior to the beginning of the Fall term have to live on campus for the academic year if they are not within the desired commuting distance (30 miles).

Ans. Sometimes students do better at attending a community college before coming to NSU. When a student’s test scores or high school GPS and class rank don’t meet our admissions requirements, we recommend students take courses at a community college first. This enables students to establish a college GPS to be admissible at NSU. Students that don’t meet our incoming freshmen requirements should earn 24 hours of college credit before reapplying and transferring to NSU.

Ans. For incoming freshmen that are close to meeting our regular admissions requirements, you may be asked to complete our supplemental application form to be admitted as an alternative freshman. The supplemental application consists of several short answer questions and required two letters of recommendation. 

Ques. As an adult wanting to go to college, do I have to take the ACT before I enroll?

Ans. An adult student is defined as a first-time college student that is 21 years of age or older. If you are 23 years of age or older, we do not require an ACT score at the time of admission. However, you might be asked to take come tests for placement purposes, but they’re not for admission purposes.

Ques. How do I submit TOEFL scores to Northeastern State University?
