The Bachelor of Science Degree Program in Mathematics Education is designed to prepare candidates for grades 6-12 secondary mathematics teaching. The program enables graduates to meet all of the academic requirements for Florida Certification in Mathematics (Grades 6-12). Students are required to complete a set of courses in the Mathematics Department where they develop essential understandings in the disciplinary field of mathematics that are necessary for the effective teaching of secondary school mathematics. The required Mathematics Education sequence includes courses and practica emphasizing ideas related to equity issues, mathematics curricula, mathematics instruction, mathematics learning, assessment and technology. The capstone of the program is the student teaching experience (internship) during the final semester.
Eligibility & Entry Requirement
Application Requirements:
- Submit an official or certified copy of all secondary and post-secondary records and/or examination results.
- Official transcripts must be evaluated by a member of NACES and should have an English translation if not in English
- Applicants must have a GPA of 3.0 or equivalent on a scale of 4.0
- Submit official test scores of SAT/ACT
- Submit English Language Proficiency test scores
English Language Requirements:
- TOEFL: minimum 80 in iBT; 550 in PBT
- IELTS: minimum 6.0
