The professional mathematics degree is designed to prepare students for careers in practical problem solving and mathematical modeling through collaboration with other professionals such as chemists and materials scientists. These mathematicians work in many areas of business and industry including engineering, defense, research and development and other STEM-related fields.
The combined bachelor of science and master of science degree programs provide a way for students to complete both degrees in five years. These students can enroll in up to nine graduate level courses their senior year as part of the undergraduate program. Professionals with a master’s degree earn higher salaries, receive additional job responsibilities and are more marketable for promotion in the workplace.
The doctoral option provides students with in-depth knowledge of a chosen area of mathematics to work as highly skilled mathematicians in academia, government or private industry. Also, students can expand their specialization into other scientific and applied disciplines and prepare for meaningful, long-term careers in academia, government or the private sector. A primary background in a STEM-related discipline is required.
