The Apparel Merchandising program at Baylor University not only teaches students the professional skills they will need to succeed in a variety of jobs in the apparel industry, but also life skills that will help them succeed both on and off the job.
The Apparel Merchandising program focuses on the professional aspect of the fashion industry. Students learn about retailing, manufacturing, retail buying and promotion.
Each spring, students apply concepts learned in the classroom to plan a departmental fashion show. Students oversee the public relations, ticket sales, commentary, programs, and training of models. Student designers provide the garments for the show.
Students complete a summer internship as part of their degree. Internships are available all over the United States as well as in Europe. Apparel Merchandising majors have interned in New York, Paris, Los Angeles, Dallas and London.
Graduates find jobs in buying, visual display management, product development and styling. Some alumni have gone on to work in New York City with labels such as Betsey Johnson and Mint, a fashion line created by Baylor alumna Jodi Arnold.
