The BS Mathematics Program provides students with an extended program in the techniques, applications, and theories of mathematics. Consequently, all BS mathematics majors must complete a significant amount of course work beyond the Departmental Core. These additional courses are designed to expose the student to a diverse range of mathematical topics, provide in-depth rigorous study in a focused area, and supply the experience of an independent project. The BS Mathematics major is designed to prepare students for graduate school in mathematics or other technical disciplines.

Mathematics majors gain the tools to find meaning in complex situations, learn about a wide variety of structures and relationships, and develop mathematical thinking skills required for solving problems in any field.

Because of their knowledge and flexibility, mathematics majors are sought after by employers. CareerCast.com puts Mathematician at third in their list of Best Jobs of 2015: ?Mathematicians have their choice of career opportunities open to them. A professional mathematician can work in technology, business or academia. That versatility lends itself to a job seeker's market, and the result is a high average annual salary.?

The B.S in Mathematics (59-60 S.H.) is designed for students who:

  • Are considering graduate school in mathematics or any technical field
  • Want the strongest possible background in terms of both breadth and depth of mathematical knowledge

This degree includes an independent research project.
