EWRE faculty have received the Presidential Early Career Award for Science and Engineering, the Huber Prize for Research, and the ASCE Julian Hinds Award. By combining a tradition of excellence with a passion for innovation, our program provides students with a highly competitive graduate education. Most students are supported through research assistantships, fellowships, and teaching assistantships. Alumni have gone on to positions in industry, consulting firms, government agencies, research institutions, and universities.
The Program Educational Objectives of the UMass Civil Engineering Program describe what graduates are expected to attain in the years after graduation. They are:
- Within three to five years of graduation Program graduates will have become employed in engineering or a related profession or will have continued with graduate studies.
- Within three to five years of graduation Program graduates will have been recognized by supervisors and colleagues as possessing the knowledge and skills needed for a successful career in engineering or related field and will be progressing toward the appropriate professional license or credentials.
- Within five to ten years of graduation Program graduates will have demonstrated leadership and service within their profession and in their communities through participation in professional societies and charitable organizations and similar civic service activities.
- Throughout their careers program graduates will use educational opportunities to continue to expand their knowledge and skills in areas required for their career.
