The Augusta University Counselor Education Program for School Counseling has been reviewed and approved by the Professional Standards Commission of the State of Georgia. This allows School Counseling Certification to be awarded upon completion of all requirements. All inquiries regarding certification can be processed through the Certification Officer in the College of Education.
Some courses require outside field experiences, coordinated by the faculty, to help students gain a sense of professional responsibilities and expectations in the field. Courses are offered during evening hours, on Saturdays, or in hybrid or online formats to accommodate those who may already be working.

Eligibility & Entry Requirement
Academic Requirements:
- Submit official transcripts from all universities and colleges ever attended
- Official transcripts should contain a course by course evaluation from an accredited agency
- Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 2.5 or equivalent on a scale of 4.0 in undergraduate coursework
- Submit three letters of recommendation from individuals qualified to critically assess the applicant's prior academic (usually college professors), employment, artistic, research and/or clinical experience (clinical or research supervisor/manager) and qualifications (as applicable) as well as the applicant's potential as a graduate student in the field/program selected.
- Applicants must submit an autobiographical essay within the application in which they discuss their reasons for wanting to become a counselor, what attributes they may possess which would contribute to their effectiveness as a counselor, what personal characteristics they possess that might hinder their relationships with clients, and how they are planning to address those issues
- Submit English Language Proficiency test scores
English Language Requirements:
- TOEFL: minimum 79 in iBT; 213 in CBT
- IELTS: minimum 6.5
