The program is a great experience to learn the basic fundamentals of not only interior design but also other industries(architecture, graphic design, industrial design, urban planning, fashion design etc.) .

Course Curriculum

7

Technical and informative but does need work on improvement. Mandatory classes teach practical drafting and modeling software skills for designers. Other studio classes allow students to explore and communicate their creativity. Program's union continues to change and improve the curriculum year by year.

Exams

No entrance exams needed for Canadian Universities, but a portfolio, essay submission, design test and interview was needed for admissions.

Placement

5

Due to the skills gained from this program, students are competent to work for a variety of jobs, not only interior design. We can use our transferable skills to further grow and learn in the work force in any design discipline.

Internship

My college does not offer internship or co-op but they require you to independently find and report on your internship for a course. Academic Coordinator posts internships and entry design positions regularly, but students are encourage to self report and reflect on internship.

Events

7

There are many events celebrated and hosted in my college which are held by faculties and/or students. There are student and program associations that host multiple networking events for students, but there are also casual weekly events for students to whine down from school. For art and design programs, there are "year end shows" or gallery shows to promote student's work over the school year.

Fees

Tuition, Student Center fees, Athletic fees, Student Services, special activity/incidental reserves, "SASSK & Good Food Center" etc.

Scholarship

Ontario offers a student loan program (OSAP) which I use every year during school. Due to unique personal circumstances, I have had a hard time communicating and dealing with the financial aid office/representatives.

Examination Structure

There are no exams offered for this program, unless you are taking external liberal classes(which are mandatory). Practical skills and work can not be graded through a test therefore all marks are graded through participation, assignments and studio projects.

Faculty

7

Although my program is one of the top design schools according to Azure Magazine, I think that my program is very underrated and under funded. Interior Design does not have much popularity compared to architecture and other design disciplines and we need more recognition and funds to support this program.

Hostel

Ryerson is a communal school therefore I live with my family in the suburbs. The cost of living in Toronto(especially independently) is very expensive so I commute one hour to school via public transportation.
