I chose this university because of its world-renowned engineering faculty and diversity. There are many specialization options in my program which will help me to focus on a particular field of study, i.e. AI/ML. Also, due to an enormous alumni network, there are many networking opportunities that can help in landing a job or an internship at good companies.
Course Curriculum
As this is my first term, I am doing 3 courses that are very updated with the current industry scenario. As I am doing specialization in AI/ML, there is a particular set of courses that I need to complete. There are some subjects in the curriculum that provides research experience.
Exams
1. IELTS - 7 (7.5 in Reading, 7.5 in Listening, 6.5 in Writing, 6.5 in Speaking) 2. CGPA during Bachelors - 9.16
Placement
Waterloo is famous for its engineering programs. Students go to various companies like Google, Microsoft, CISCO etc. The median salary really depends upon the program you study in and the kind of job you will do. The average salary a fresher makes is around CAD 75000
Internship
My program doesn't offer co-op or internship.
Fees
My program length varies from 1 to 2 years. This depends on the number of courses you take each term. Each year has 3 terms and each term's tuition fee is around CAD 14 to 15k.
Scholarship
There aren't any scholarship opportunities for MEng students. Students are expected to fund the course by themselves. Although there are many scholarship opportunities for MASc students.
Faculty
As there is flexibility to choose any subject, there isn't any fixed faculty-to-student ratio. Special topic courses generally have a ratio of 1:20-30 and the main course have around 1:80-100. The ratios can be more or less each term. The faculty is very knowledgeable and have a vast experience in their respective fields.
Campus Life
I cannot comment on that as this is the first semester and I am attending online classes from home. But I have heard from the seniors that the campus life, infrastructure, etc. is great. You will surely love it.
Hostel
As I am studying online from my home country, I haven't rented a room. There are many options for housing in the waterloo region. You can easily get a private room in an apartment and the average would cost around CAD 550-600 per month
