U of S Nutrition Review

C
5.8 /10

I live in Saskatoon so I decided this was the most convenient and affordable option for me. The nutrition program also had the practicum included in it, which other provinces don't have- you have to compete for it. The fact that I would not have to compete for this made the program much more appealing to me to apply for.

Course Curriculum :

I feel like the course could be completed in 2 years rather than 4 years with 1-2 years before hand. I feel as if the classes in years 1-2 were useless and invaluable to me hand I could have benefited more from a more hands on approach.

Exams :

As I mentioned above, the nutrition program has the practicum integrated into the program so no one has to compete for it. Nutrition also fascinated me as it is in the health care field, which has lots of jobs available and it pays fairly well. Nutrition is also a fascinating subject to me and I am excited to use my knowledge to help others.

Placement :

Placements are a joke. Half the students are expected to move to Regina for a year in the 4th year and pay for living without receiving money from the practicum. We also can not have another job since our practicum is a full time job itself so unless we give up sleep, there is no time to work between working full time and doing assignments on the time off.

Internship :

Yes. I have applied for several throughout my undergraduate years but I have always been turned down. Despite having expertise and availability, they were looking for students with prior experience, which is hard to get if never given the opportunity, and the competition was too high among other students.

Events :

Welcome month has various opportunities for all the years to get together. Such activities include slo-pitch, BBQ, golfing and a potluck/scavenger hunt.

Fees :

Don't know of anything for International students as I have no experience which such a thing. Fees are a joke as it is a university and they expect broke students to overpay for everything. Some scholarships are available for students but there are few of them and they require essays and tons of work to apply. Its also very competitive.

Examination Structure :

Usually a midterm and a final. Both usually are entirely short and long answer and there is rarely any multiple choice so you have to know what you are talking about and go into exceedingly great detail.

Faculty :

They are extremely unfair and definitely have favorites. They expect everyone to fit into a cookie cutter shape and discriminate against any student they see as unfit for their college.

Hostel :

I live with my parents as we live in Saskatoon. All my food and living expenses were taken care of by my parents so thankfully I did not have to pay for anything like others may have had to pay for. I chose to live at home because I am broke.
