Tejveer Singh Review at University Of The Fraser Valley [UFV], Abbotsford | Collegedunia

My overall experience about University of the Fraser Valley.

I chose UFV for my post-secondary education because first, its campus is in British Columbia, and therefore, the weather is bearable and not as cold as compared to other places in Canada. Second, the tuition fees at UFV is relatively less than other institutions across Canada.

Course Curriculum :

As per my experience, the Course Curriculum is moderate in terms of difficulty because unlike other universities, more emphasis is given to the practical aspects of the subject, and the courses are planned as such that we are able to take classes in core computer science courses and at the same time, we take a few business courses to learn about how IT companies operate in the real world. Also, in terms of industrial experience, I have signed up for the optional Co-op Work Term of 12-months to gain the necessary work experience before graduating so that I am better prepared to work under pressure in the real work scenario. So, therefore, it is entirely up to the student as to what he/she has planned for his/her career.

Exams :

For my university application, I had submitted the following: 1. Statement of Purpose (SoP): In my SoP, I stated the reason for studying in Canada and choosing UFV for my post-secondary education. Also, I wrote about my future plans, i.e., what do I intend to do after completing my education. 2. IELTS scores3. CBSE Class 12 Mark-sheet4. CBSE Class 10 Mark-sheet No, I did not have any rounds of interviews or tests other than the ones stated above.

Placement :

The post-study placement opportunities are fair, to be honest. The university has tie-ups with a few Canadian firms like RBC, Save-on-foods, etc. Here, students get Co-op opportunities and a full-time job once they complete their studies. However, there is no guarantee, students will get the job only if they have the knowledge. The university can only get you a job interview, but after that, it is entirely up to you. In terms of networking, the university regularly hosts career fairs where companies from all over Canada get together and students get the opportunity to make contacts, hand-over resumes, and build connections.

Internship :

Yes, I have opted for the University Co-op program of 12-months.

Events :

My campus life has been awesome, UFV has a beautiful campus in Abbotsford with a lot of greenery throughout the campus. Modern buildings, small classes where I get a lot of individual attention. If you want to grab something to eat then there are a few food places that have good quality food. Just like other universities, our university has a beautiful quiet library where we can study for as long as we want. Also, students get access to a fast Wi-Fi connections all across the campus.

Fees :

Tuition fees at UFV are about $21,000 (Canadian) for two terms, i.e. Fall and Winter term. In the summer, if a student wishes to study, then he/she will have to pay extra on a per-credit basis depending upon the number of courses he/she is planning to take.

Scholarship :

No, I have not received a scholarship as of now, but I am determined to work hard so that I can get the required GPA to be eligible for a scholarship.

Faculty :

In our university, the faculty to student ratio is 1:35 in most courses while there are a few courses especially in business and economics, where the same is 1:70. As per my experience, most of the faculty members are really good and are very supportive. They are willing to help, but the students should put in extra effort if they want complete support. For instance, take regular appointments of the professors, show up to their office hours, and take help from the teaching assistants. There are various resources to get help but as I said, students will have to put in the effort to take complete advantage of the same.

Hostel :

Yes, in my first few semesters, I had taken accommodation on-campus. There are various units at the university residence, each unit has two individual rooms (fully private) and a common hall and bathroom. However, kitchens are located outside the units in the common area where residents of all units cook together.
