- MA in Anthropology at York University is offered as a 2.5-years program by the Department of Anthropology.
- It is an on-campus program offered on a full-time basis only.
- The Master’s program in Anthropology is a unique 5-term program in which students conduct original fieldwork, library, or archival research resulting in a Major Research Paper.
- Students develop skills in critical thinking, increase their knowledge of anthropological theory and methods, and gain specialized knowledge in a particular topical area of their choice.
- The program consists of two required half-courses in Theory and Methods plus four elective half-courses selected from offerings in Social Anthropology.
- The program emphasizes theoretical and practical research that combines conceptual sophistication, reflexivity, and political engagement at various levels from the global to the regional and the local.

Eligibility & Entry Requirement
Academic Eligibility:
- Students must have a 4-year undergraduate degree in Anthropology or its equivalent from a recognized institution.
- An undergraduate grade point average of 3.33 (B+ grade) out of 4.0 from accredited institutions is required for unconditional admission.
Indian Student Eligibility:
- Students must complete a 4-year undergraduate degree with first class in a relevant field from a recognized institution
- Or, students completed a master's degree with first-class in a relevant field from a recognized institution.
- An undergraduate grade point average of 3.0 (B grade) out of 4.0 from accredited institutions is required for unconditional admission.
Along with the minimum eligibility requirements, international students hailing from non-English speaking countries need to prove English proficiency through IELTS/TOEFL/any equivalent test to get admission to this program.
