Dalhousie University offers a Diploma in Veterinary Technology for a duration of 2 years.
It is an on-campus program offered on a full-time basis.
This program is accredited by the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association
In this program, students will be prepared to work as a technician with practicing veterinarians, researchers, and other professionals who work with animals in medical or scientific environments.
Students will take a variety of courses in animal medicine and nursing, clinical exercises and pathology, anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology.
Students will also learn about large animal practice, lab animals, and alternative pet medicine.
The sample course that students learn in this program are:
- Animal Medicine and Nursing I to IV
- Clinical Exercises I to IV
- Companion Animal Behaviour
University will provide opportunities for students to learn outside the classroom through an off-campus externship.
Students can also work in the on-campus animal clinic, where they will learn the skills required to be successful in a companion animal veterinary practice.
In future studies, students may include completing a Bachelor of Science (Agriculture) or a Bachelor of Science in BioVeterinary Science.
The department provides many world-class facilities that are unique to the Atlantic region and include state-of-the-art technologies, a functional farm, expansive fields, and an aquaculture centre.
The average salary goes up to 40,000 USD after completion of the program.

Eligibility & Entry Requirement

Academic Eligibility:

Students have to complete Grade 12 in the following courses with an average of 60% score:
- Academic English 12
- Academic Math 12
- Academic Biology 12
- Academic Chemistry 12
Students also have to complete one additional academic subject in Grade 12.
Students have to give a veterinary technology aptitude test for getting admission to this program.

Indian Student Eligibility:

Indian students are eligible to apply if they have any one of the following certificates:

All-India Senior School Certificate (CBSE)
Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC)
Indian School Certificate (CISCE)
Or, another Senior Secondary School Certificate awarded after standard XII

Along with the minimum eligibility requirements, international students hailing from non-English speaking countries need to prove English proficiency through IELTS/TOEFL/any equivalent test.
