  • Students will study the dynamics of political environments, learn how to use archives and historical data, study social theory and theoretical approaches, learn how to apply ethical frameworks, and develop critical analytical skills.
  • In pursuing this field of study, students will be able to pursue rigorous graduate study that culminates in an in-depth individual research project.
  • The interdisciplinary nature of the program, drawing from multiple faculties and departments, allows for a range of teaching and research opportunities in different departments.
  • Graduates of the program will come away with a nuanced understanding of:
    • Power, social change, and the history of ideas
    • Governance, participation, and policymaking
    • Historical context and framework
    • Inequality, conflict, and social justice
  • Graduate students can pursue these and other faculty research and teaching interests:
    • Criminology, law, and legal systems
    • Social movements and political consciousness
    • Gender, social reproduction, and sexuality
    • Inequality, economic systems, and social policy
    • Critical race theory, intersectionality
    • Ideology, religion, and identity in conflict
    • Post-humanism, interspecies, and critical animal studies

Eligibility & Entry Requirement

Academic Eligibility:

  • Applicants must hold a four-year bachelor’s degree in Power, Conflict, and Ideas or equivalent from a recognized institution.
  • A GPA of at least 3.3/4.0 (B+ or 76%) is required to be eligible for the program.

Indian Student Eligibility:

  • Students must complete an undergraduate degree with first-class in a relevant field from a highly ranked university in India.
  • Or, students completed a master's degree with first-class in a relevant field from a recognized institution.

Along with the minimum eligibility requirements, international students hailing from non-English speaking countries need to prove English proficiency through IELTS/TOEFL/any equivalent test to get admission to this program.

Can I use MBA to apply for master of science in finance or Business Administration?

To apply for the M.Sc Finance program of UBC you must have a four-year undergraduate degree with a minimum GPA of 3.0 in the last two years of study. You must also have at least studied one calculus course and one linear algebra course. International students must submit a valid ELP test score. GMAT score of 550 is preferred. For the M.Sc Business Administration program the admission requirements vary depending on the student’s educational background, work experience, and other factors.

Qualification and submission of GRE score is not necessary to get admission in the MS Pharmaceutical Sciecnes program of the University of British Columbia. You can apply for this program after completing a bachelor’s degree in the relevant field with at least B+ grade and a valid ELP test score.

Students who have completed a four-years Bachelor degree in Engineering, Forestry or Medicine with a minimum of 65% from a recognized university are eligible to apply for the master program of UBC. Along with that you must have a valid ELP test score. GMAT/GRE is not required for this program.
